From the start, Alton took a stranglehold on the game by defending high and giving Basingstoke no time or space.
Quickly chances were made, though finishing on a very bouncy pitch proved difficult, with many shots going over the top and David Wilson Junior striking the crossbar. Wilson Junior finally smashed home a rebound to give table-topping Alton a half-time lead.
The second half was a copy of the first, with the miserly Alton defence not letting anything through to trouble keeper Charlie Vincent.
As Basingstoke tired, Alton’s midfield created more chances and David Wilson Senior added a second with a clinical finish into the top corner.
Charlie Gabb followed up at a short corner to smash home the third before the punch-drunk Basingstoke defence allowed Wilson Senior to waltz through unchallenged after a quick self-taken free hit and slot home a fourth.
