THE past two weeks have been incredibly busy for Alton Runners.
A hard training period was followed by consecutive race weekends.
March 1 saw the finale of the Southern Cross Country League, which saw Alton finish in a respectable mid-table position of 11th. The race was very testing, with mixed terrain asking a lot of the runners’ stamina and tenacity.
First to cross the line for Alton were Diego Maldonado, 60th for the men, and Diane Bryne, 21st for the women.
There were some great performances, and one of note was by Gary Thurtle, who embraced the mud making his debut for the runners, and finished in a very respectable 80th position.
March 8 saw the latest instalment of the Hampshire Road Race League.
There was a hatful of personal bests among the runners, and a great overall team performance.
Adam Stonehill crossed the line first for the Alton Runners men, in 63 minutes and 64th place, followed by James Vann and Philip Scrase.
